AI Chat (“we”, “our”, “us”) is a Mac app that lets you chat with an AI assistant. This policy explains what data the app handles. We’ve kept it short and honest.
To answer you, the app sends the messages you type (and the earlier messages in the same conversation, for context) to our AI provider, OpenRouter (openrouter.ai), which runs the AI model that generates the reply. This is the core function of the app — without it, the assistant cannot respond.
Please do not enter sensitive personal information (passwords, financial details, health records, etc.) into the chat, as it is transmitted to the AI provider to produce a response.
Your conversation history is stored locally on your Mac only, in the app’s standard Application Support folder. We do not run a server of our own, do not use iCloud sync, and do not keep a copy of your chats. Deleting a conversation in the app removes it from your device.
Your prompts are processed by OpenRouter (and the upstream model provider it routes to) solely to generate the assistant’s reply. Their handling of requests is governed by their own privacy policy: https://openrouter.ai/privacy.

Replies are generated by a machine-learning model and may be inaccurate or, despite safeguards, occasionally objectionable. The app includes a Report button on every reply so you can flag inappropriate content to us. The app is rated for ages 17+.
AI Chat is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
We may update this policy; material changes will be posted here with a new date.
